The 6th Annual Art and Craft Exhibition took place over the August Bank Holiday weekend (August 26th – 29th) at Great Witley Church. The Exhibition played host to local artists and craft men and women including wood turners, embroiderers, a jewellery maker and glass painter. As always the displays of paintings were enhanced and in their turn were enhanced by the bright interior of the Church. Outside, two marquees housed sales of bric-a-brac and books and a chocolate tombola, joined on the Sunday by a produce stall selling fresh local fruit and vegetables, preserves and home made cakes.
The weekend began with a preview on the Friday evening. Pimms and canapés were served and Alex Walter provided soothing piano accompaniment. The weather was rather unsettled on the Saturday and Sunday but very pleasant on Monday. There were over 1,600 visitors during the three days and there were many complimentary comments on the variety and consistently high standard of the exhibits. Many purchases were made including one spectacular one of a £900 painting of Witley Court and Church by David Birtwhistle.
