Five representatives from Great Witley Parish Church went to Lambeth Palace on Monday 23rd of January for a book launch which was hosted by Rt Revd Dr John Inge, Bishop of Worcester.
Janet Gough and the churches team from the Cathedral and Church Buildings Division of the Archbishop’s Council, have had the very great pleasure of visiting and writing about some of England’s most beautiful and extraordinary parish churches and college chapels. Much harder than Desert Island Discs, the team had to choose just 42 churches from 16,000 to include in a new book just launched – Director’s Choice: the Churches of the Church of England (Scala Publishers).
Just one church from each of the 42 Church of England dioceses was chosen and for Worcestershire the beautiful Baroque church at Great Witley was chosen.
Janet Gough, who was until recently Director of the Cathedrals and Church Buildings Division, and the book’s main author, said: “It was an honour and a delight to visit most of the 42 churches and chapels featured in the book.”
Rt Revd Dr John Inge, Bishop of Worcester and the Church of England’s lead bishop on church buildings says in the book’s preface: “I hope that these pages might encourage their readers not only to relish the glorious architecture and history of our churches, but speak to them of the Living God, revealed in Jesus Christ to whose glory they were built.”
