Kidderminster Male Choir

Principal Musical Director: Justin Parker

2004

A programme to suit all tastes, ranging from sacred and classical to songs from the shows. The choir's varied repertoire includes items from Gershwin, The Beatles, and Les Misérables, plus traditional Welsh tunes like Cwm Rhondda and well-known spirituals.

Kidderminster Male Choir celebrates its centenary this year, being one of the oldest male choirs in the country, with a long and rich musical tradition. Originally, almost every member was employed in the world-famous Kidderminster carpet factories, but now choir members are drawn from all walks of life. The choir's high standard of musical performance has been enjoyed in many parts of the UK and overseas, including concert tours of Austria, Germany, Italy, Singapore and Australia.

The choir has been successful in music competitions, having twice won the title 'Choir of the Year' at the Welsh Association of Males Choirs competition. It is ably led by Justin Parker, Principal Musical Director and Harry Lewis, Deputy MD, together with Maureen Bowkett, Principal Accompanist and Margaret Tillott, Deputy Accompanist.

Britain's finest Baroque Church.  St. Michael and All Angels Church, Great Witley,  A443 Worcester - Tenbury Wells road, 10 miles north-west of Worcester.    As the parish church for the villages of Great Witley and Little Witley  it is used regularly for services and concerts. The church is open to visitors daily. The church, now almost fully restored, displays a splendour which is unique amongst country churches in Britain, with exquisite gilded decorations throughout, numerous paintings by Antonio Bellucci, ten painted glass windows depicting scenes from the New Testament, highly decorative carving and a large monument by Rysbrack. It also has a fine organ, its case being from the instrument on which Handel played.   Many musicians consider its acoustics for music to be as fine as any building of its size outside London
