Great Witley Church: Access and Parking

Arrangements for attending the Church will normally be as follows, unless you are directed differently.

Take care that you head for Witley Church - not to be confused with Witley Court, which has a separate entrance and car park administered by English Heritage.

Driving to the Church

If you are driving specifically to the Church - as distinct from Witley Court - the only access is via one of the original unadopted drives, as it has always been.

Parking for concerts, special church services and other events

As before, car parking spaces will be available in the vicinity of the church, with access along the original drives.
As arrangements may vary during the year, please be prepared to follow direction signs to the area in use at the time.
Usually there will be car parking stewards to assist and to give you directions, ensuring that the available space is used in the most effective way.

Drivers who have difficulty walking can ask the car park steward for help to park as close as possible.

Other advice

Allow enough time to park your car and to walk the short distance to the church.
When conditions are wet, wear stout shoes in case of puddles or long grass.
Please bring a torch if you will be arriving or leaving in the dark.
(In recent years two very effective floodlights have been in place on the tower; regrettably these have had to be removed on the instruction of the Diocese and the District Planning Committee)

Footnote

The drive from the main road does not belong to the Church and the Church has no jurisdiction over what happens to it.
It is pleasing to report that recently the section of the drive from the Great Witley direction has been levelled and pot-holes filled.  This is thanks to the Parish Council, residents and the commitment of certain individuals, whose constant painstaking efforts have contributed to a gradual programme of improvement.

Britain's finest Baroque Church.  St. Michael and All Angels Church, Great Witley,  A443 Worcester - Tenbury Wells road, 10 miles north-west of Worcester.    As the parish church for the villages of Great Witley and Little Witley  it is used regularly for services and concerts. The church is open to visitors daily. The church, now almost fully restored, displays a splendour which is unique amongst country churches in Britain, with exquisite gilded decorations throughout, numerous paintings by Antonio Bellucci, ten painted glass windows depicting scenes from the New Testament, highly decorative carving and a large monument by Rysbrack. It also has a fine organ, its case being from the instrument on which Handel played.   Many musicians consider its acoustics for music to be as fine as any building of its size outside London
