Choros Amici Concert  on Saturday 25th May 2002

"A stunning, friendly choir... sensational" - so says one of the critics.

Verve, humour and a taut 'togetherness' combined to make this occasion really memorable.

From Bruchner, Rachmaninov and Britten to 'Summertime' there was music here for everybody. Clearly both conductor (Chris Mallinson) and choir highly enjoyed themselves as did their audience. There were a number of 'in' jokes, not all of which were audible to those further back in the church and one felt that choir members particularly emjoyed the suggestion of Barber Shop which crept into their lighter numbers.

A guest of mine with considerable acquaintance with Canadian Indian culture particularly enjoyed the extended piece by Bob Chilcott picturing, in what one might almost call musical 'drama' - "The Making of the Drum".

Clearly the audience loved it all, clapping enthusiastically and demanding an encore. We hope there will be further opportunities of hearing the winner of the BBC's 'Choir of the Year' award in the year 2000.

Britain's finest Baroque Church.  St. Michael and All Angels Church, Great Witley,  A443 Worcester - Tenbury Wells road, 10 miles north-west of Worcester.    As the parish church for the villages of Great Witley and Little Witley  it is used regularly for services and concerts. The church is open to visitors daily. The church, now almost fully restored, displays a splendour which is unique amongst country churches in Britain, with exquisite gilded decorations throughout, numerous paintings by Antonio Bellucci, ten painted glass windows depicting scenes from the New Testament, highly decorative carving and a large monument by Rysbrack. It also has a fine organ, its case being from the instrument on which Handel played.   Many musicians consider its acoustics for music to be as fine as any building of its size outside London
