Stewarding

Up

Have you considered becoming a Steward?

"We have 12 new stewards since the summer, which has helped us over the unavoidable loss of several stewards due to ill health, or moving away from the district. We still need more.
Any new people are given an introduction to the church and the duties involved before they make up their minds, and then are always accompanied for the first one or two times until they feel happy to carry on on their own.
They can do as much or as little as they like; once a week, once a month, twice a month, school holidays, with a permanent slot, or, if preferred, filling in where needed. There is plenty of information to read, and no-one expects them to know everything.
After all, I've been a steward for 14 years; some knowledge was bound to rub off in that time!"

Valerie Powick,  November 2002

It may surprise you to know that the Church ideally needs about 125 stewards in all and, because existing stewards sometimes have to leave us, we need replacements and can therefore offer you the opportunity to help out. Stewards welcome visitors from this country and abroad, tell them about the Church, answer their questions, and help with the sale of Church booklets etc.

The Committee is very grateful for the time and commitment given by all stewards.

We particularly need further volunteer stewards to offer 4 hours of their time, once or twice a month if they are able. During the summer months this might be from 10 am until 2pm, or from 2pm until 6 pm, while in the winter, from 10.30 am until 1.30 pm, or from 1.30 pm until 4 pm.

Many stewards work together in pairs.

There is no doubt that without the help of stewards, who encourage visitors' interest, financial maintenance of the church would be impossible More regular stewards are urgently needed so that a satisfactory rota can be operated, enabling the church to be manned during all hours of opening. You do not have to live locally to be considered - some existing stewards live in Malvern, Solihull and Bromsgrove.

For further information on Stewarding, please telephone  01905 620488,  write to the Church, or e-mail us.

Thank you.

Britain's finest Baroque Church.  St. Michael and All Angels Church, Great Witley,  A443 Worcester - Tenbury Wells road, 10 miles north-west of Worcester.    As the parish church for the villages of Great Witley and Little Witley  it is used regularly for services and concerts. The church is open to visitors daily. The church, now almost fully restored, displays a splendour which is unique amongst country churches in Britain, with exquisite gilded decorations throughout, numerous paintings by Antonio Bellucci, ten painted glass windows depicting scenes from the New Testament, highly decorative carving and a large monument by Rysbrack. It also has a fine organ, its case being from the instrument on which Handel played.   Many musicians consider its acoustics for music to be as fine as any building of its size outside London
