Volante Strings, a group of Worcester players led by Angela Richey,  will be celebrating their fifth anniversary with a return concert to Great Witley, whose Baroque church was the inspiration leading to the formation of the group in 1999.

Their concerts in and around Worcestershire have been very well received and they have been fortunate in playing with some internationally known soloists, having been awarded grants and sponsorship from local firms.

Volante Strings' performances are invariably entertaining, as illustrated in a recent review by the Malvern Gazette: "The instrumentalists' impeccable timing and admirable warmth of tome was evident from the first phrase of Mozart's Divertimento". This year is the centenary of Dvorak's death; his String Serenade is a "must" for string players with its wonderful melodies, and Volante Strings are featuring it in their programme.

Michael Campbell was Head of Music at RNIB New College, Worcester for many years and is himself blind. A pupil of Gareth Morris at the Royal Academy of Music, he subsequently gave broadcasts recitals on the BBC Home Service. He has played many times with Volante Strings; playing on his wooden flute, his performance has a very special quality which is truly memorable to all who hear him...   "This was musicianship of high calibre, played on a wonderfully mellow-toned wooden flute", Malvern Gazette.

Britain's finest Baroque Church.  St. Michael and All Angels Church, Great Witley,  A443 Worcester - Tenbury Wells road, 10 miles north-west of Worcester.    As the parish church for the villages of Great Witley and Little Witley  it is used regularly for services and concerts. The church is open to visitors daily. The church, now almost fully restored, displays a splendour which is unique amongst country churches in Britain, with exquisite gilded decorations throughout, numerous paintings by Antonio Bellucci, ten painted glass windows depicting scenes from the New Testament, highly decorative carving and a large monument by Rysbrack. It also has a fine organ, its case being from the instrument on which Handel played.   Many musicians consider its acoustics for music to be as fine as any building of its size outside London
